Summer 2023 is shaping up to be a pretty good season. It isn’t quite as spectacular as Winter or Spring, but those were hard seasons to follow. I’m still enjoy most of the shows. These are just my initial thoughts on the current season. Please enjoy.
Sunday
Classroom for Heroes
This is top tier fantasy anime bullshit. I’m not sure of an overarching plot line yet, but each episode appears to be a whole season’s arc just jam packed into one, maybe two episodes. I love it for that, it’s different and fun and they just aren’t going to explain anything.
I’m watching this on Crunchyroll
Mushoku Tensei Season 2
This continues to be great, it feels much like the first season except that Rudeus is much more low key and grown up. We are just getting into the magic academy and I’m expecting great things.
I’m watching this on Crunchyroll but it is available on multiple streaming platforms.
Dark Gathering
I didn’t know what to expect from this at all. I love the cute and spooky vibe that it has though. The story is developing well and I expect that there will be exciting things happening in the future.
I’m watching this on HiDive.
Monday
Masamune-kun’s Revenge Season 2
There are definitely some interesting developments happening in the second season. I’m looking forward to seeing how their relationship develops over this season.
I’m watching this on Crunchyroll.
Sweet Reincarnation
I frankly dropped this show. I was expecting lots of baking or sweets and over four episodes I got one pie. I just frankly didn’t need another overpowered magic protagonist isekai when I expected an overpowered baking isekai.
I was watching this on Crunchyroll.
Demon Lord and One Room Hero
This is just pure fun. The world setting is really strange since it has many modern day workings but still uses swords for combat. The plot is funny and the characters are well designed and a job to watch. I look forward to watching more of this.
I’m watching this on HiDive.
Zom 100
I hope to never work at a company that makes the zombie apocalypse seem fun. This show is colorful, exciting and a laugh riot. It is a joy to watch every week.
I’m watching this on Netflix but it is also available on other streaming platforms.
Tuesday
The Girl I Like Forgot her Glasses
This is a fun romance, though I just wish I knew how she could possibly lose her glasses that many times. She clearly needs them to exist and would probably fail if not for our main boy. It’s probably not the greatest romance anime ever, but it is very cute.
I’m watching this on Crunchyroll.
Helck
The highlight of my Tuesdays! This show is amazing and I love Helck. The weird friendships he is cultivating amongst the demons, how infuriated he makes the upper demon management, and those crucial passive facial expressions. This is well done, humorous, and just an all around fun show.
I’m watching this on HiDive.
Dreaming Boy is a Realist
I dropped this on episode three, but I wanted to drop it after the first episode. This should have been a good example about not harassing someone until they date you. The first few minutes of the anime gave me real hope about that. Then it got weird, then it got very confusing and it just wasn’t enjoyable.
I watched this on HiDive.
Wednesday
Saint Cecilia and Pastor Lawrence
Ah, a clueless romance protagonist who misses all the clues that the beautiful girl is madly in love with him. It’s a trope I love for a reason. It is bolstered by the soft provincial setting with secondary characters that are trying to help them become a couple.
I’m watching this on Crunchyroll.
Reborn as a Vending Machine, I Now Wander the Dungeon
This is every bit as absurd as the title. I love it so much, a vending machine otaku reincarnated as a vending machine in another world? A fantastic idea with flawless execution in this fun isekai.
I’m watching this on Crunchyroll.
Undead (Girl) Murder Farce
The detective story of my dreams. It combines all the delicious fun of a Sherlock Holmes story with the delight of a monster tale. The combination of absurd characters and witty writing makes the idea very fun while also keeping the dark detective story feel. It’s a very enjoyable experience for me.
I’m watching this on Crunchyroll.
Sacrificial Princess
I’m continuing to watch this from the spring season and I’m still enjoying it. We do have some new characters introduced for the season, that’s livened it up some. It’s still a cute fantasy romance.
I’m still watching this on Crunchyroll.
My Happy Marriage
This is much better than I expected. I’m falling for our protagonists and their odd romance. It hits on such deep emotional notes with animation that is frankly beautiful. This is a well written and directed show that I hope keeps that up through the rest of the season.
I’m watching this on Netflix.
I’ll have my thoughts out for the rest of the shows up soon. I’m enjoying this season even if it is not quite as spectacular as last season. I do hope that you enjoyed by thoughts today. Happy watching!
