Sorry for how long this has taken to come out. There was a sudden death in my husband’s family, and we had to travel down to Oklahoma for a week. I’m still recovering from that, and we are still behind on our shows. This will look rough today, and I apologize for that as well. I’ll be back soon with more write ups. For now please enjoy my thoughts on the rest of the Summer 2023 season.

Reign of the Seven Spell Blades
I can’t really get a read on this violent magical school anime. We have so many elements to follow and there really isn’t much of a plot development at this point in time. I hope we will get a full plot soon, because I want to really enjoy the show more.
I’m watching this on Crunchyroll.
Rent-a-Girlfriend
Peak trash! The phrase my husband and I use every Friday before we watch this show. I wrote a pretty nice review of the first season. I saw trash but that’s because Kazuya’s a bit trash. The art and writing are actually excellent, and the story is very enjoyable. The new character introduced in this season is amazing. I’ll watch this through to the end and probably again at some point.

Sugar Apple Fairy Tale cour 2
Ah, the beautiful, gentle, fairy tale about a girl, her dream, and her badass warrior fairy. This continues to make me, a known fairy tale lover, very happy with its story and characters. The art style is so gentle and pastel, which makes the darker elements stand out more. I simply adore it.

The Gene of AI
This is an interesting one, following a doctor that treats a humanoid, a very interesting android. They have both mechanical and biological parts, they start as children and can grow up. I really like the idea, but I’m an Asimov fan. It is a fun take on androids and is so far just cute vignettes about their lives and struggles, I want to see where it goes.

The Masterful Cat is Depressed
This whimsical story of an office worker and her live-in 6 foot cat who cooks, cleans, and does her laundry is quite fun. She looks so put together because her pet takes care of her. This is just hilarious, the means to try and hide that he is a cat. The people who know and just go on with their days, it’s altogether glorious. I’m enjoying every episode.

Am I Actually the Strongest?
This is a baffling isekai, it is riding the line between bad and so bad it is good. The protagonist is definitely OP and with no explanations as to how his barrier magic works. He can access the internet in Japan! HOW?!? They won’t tell us, and those sorts of shenanigans are apparently why I can’t stop watching this one.

Atelier Ryza
This is so very chill and low key that I absolutely want to buy the game it is based on. I love the characters and the small adventures they have. It is very silly and cute, if only it didn’t have to just zoom in on the main girl’s thighs so much. It is getting a little ridiculous at this point. So much thigh, also, she needs to go up a size in shorts.

Ayaka
This seemed like it might be fun, but it couldn’t keep my interest. I ended up dropping it after episode three. I did appreciate the thorough color scheme for each character. It made it easy to differentiate them. I may pick this up at a later date.
I watched this on Crunchyroll.
Horimiya
The cute vignettes of this season have been an absolute joy to watch. They evoke the romantic feelings of the original while just adding emphasis to the time they spent with friends. It is fun to see all the little interactions they couldn’t fit in the first season.
I’m watching this on Crunchyroll.
Liar Liar
This has been a little bit of a surprise. I wasn’t necessarily sold the premise, but my love of complicated puzzles and great bluffs has really cemented my investment in this show. I look forward to watching it, but I do think the set-up can be a little long sometimes.

My Tiny Senpai
This is such an adorable little romance. The character development is going well and I’m really invested in the burgeoning relationships. It feels so gentle and sweet, a slow growing romance between two awkward people at work.

My Unique Skills Make Me OP even at Level 1
I’m not sold on this anime yet. There are some interesting and unique elements but there are just a lot of grating problems with the show. The side characters are very one dimensional, and it just feels like they skirted around the very premise in places. I debate dropping this with each new episode.

TenPuru
At last an unabashed harem show, not trying to be more than what it is. I’m loving the absolute harem nonsense going on in each episode. It is beyond stupid and that’s what makes it entertaining. It’s nice to see something that isn’t trying to be more than what it is, and it has a sense of humor on the lowest level to appeal to everyone.

This season is enjoyable if not quite as spectacular as last season. I hope you enjoyed this write up.
